Gyou-Re (Ray) Lee
Ray was born in Iowa City, IA to Korean immigrants who had come to America to study at the University of Iowa. He spent most of his formative years moving between different cities and towns in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. Ray eventually attended the University of Virginia where he received Bachelor's degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Music. After graduating from UVA, he moved to St. Louis to work as an engineer for The Boeing Company. He recently transitioned to a Strategy Analyst position for the Boeing Company. In his time outside of work, Ray pursued advanced degrees and volunteered for various organizations in St. Louis. His hobbies include writing and playing music, basketball, and taking random trips when possible.
As the VP of Public Affairs for OCA-STL, he looks forward to creating and maintaining relationships with various organizations and groups throughout the St. Louis region and beyond. With these partnerships, his hope is that OCA-STL will become a leader for civil rights and issue advocacy not just for the Asian-American community in St. Louis, but also for the St. Louis community as a whole. In an effort to become better equipped for this effort, Ray was given the privilege to attend this year's JACL/OCA Leadership Summit in Washington DC. During this summit, he, along with fellow advocates from all across the country, were taught the "how to's" of advocacy by people who live it on a day-to-day basis. They were even given the opportunity to lobby Congress on the issues of immigration and education.
"I look forward to playing my part in making St. Louis a better community for all." - Ray Lee. |
