A new resource came to the Olive Business Association at its November 12 meeting as Mr. Thomas Moton, new Assistant City Manager of University City, was introduced.

Mr. Moton was chosen from his former position as Assistant City Manager of Corsicana, Texas. He said he would be working closely with the OBA. He has a background in economic development. He has brought new companies to his Texas area through development tools attractive to those companies. The tools have included street and sidewalk improvements, better sewer lines and utilities, and expanded cooperation with the police departments to provide greater safety and security. Maintaining and improving the appearances of stores and shops has attracted greater numbers of visitors to the area.

Mr. Moton said that when he stopped at a St. Louis Visitors' Center during his first trip, U. City brochures were given to him. He was impressed.

OBA members were pleased that he will be working with them.

Larry Lieberman, City Council member, reported that the proposed sales tax increase to support the Heman Park Recreation Center and Swimming Pool projects was approved by the voters during the November 7 elections. The sales tax will go into effect on April 1, 2003. Business owners will be notified.

Mt. Lieberman said work will resume on the unfinished building, located on the south side of Delmar east of Highway 170, during the first week of December. That area will then become mach more attractive.

St. Louis Chinese American printed the translated text of the Recreation Center Survey in the paper. St. Louis Chinese American reminded readers of the paper to complete the Survey and return it to news office on 8611 Olive at Jeffrey Plaza. The St. Louis Chinese American has also been locating Chinese translators for users of the University City Free Monthly Health Care and Education
services.

Mr. Max Tsai, from Asian Food Market, donated a "Make A Different Day" check to OBA to support and help OBA's development.

Among the twenty-one Olive Street Road Businesspersons present at the meeting were several Asian business operators. The strong presence of international merchants is important to the growth of the Olive Business Association. It was valuable to have them there.

The next meeting of the OBA will be Tuesday, December 10, at 6:00 P.M. The Association urges Olive businesspersons to attend and to be a part of selecting the banner for the area.
