St. Louis Zoo held a press conference on 06/24/2000 to introduce the Monsanto Insectarium and River's Edge.

The Insectarium will offer visitors a glimpse into the vast world of invertebrates and the important role they play in our ecosystem," said Charles H. Hoessle, director of the Zoo. "Creative displays will offer an appreciation for their industrious nature and their striking beauty. Live insect exhibits will give people the opportunity to observe the behavior of these fascinating creatures."

River's Edge is a multi-species place where you can follow a mythical waterway, encountering animals along the way that interact at the river's edge. Here you will pass through the habitats of animals from Africa, South America, Asia and the rich river heritage of St. Louis. No barriers. No buildings. Just you and some fascinating creatures.
