Chinese Culture Days 2000
May 20, 21 at Missouri
Botanical Garden
Chinese culture is not monolithic. So many thousands of years of civilization, so many
billions of people of Chinese ancestry, so many continents where Chinese have rooted focus
this celebration on unity through understanding.
The Margaret Grigg Nanjing Friendship Garden commemorates long standing scientific and
cultural exchanges between the Missouri Botanical Garden and Chinese botanical
institutions. It is the most authentic Chinese garden of its size in the United States.
Understanding among all the elements of multi-cultural America inspires this collaboration
of St. Louis organizations to produce authentic and wide ranging views of Chinese culture
through music, art, dance, food, and entertainment for the thousands of visitors to the
celebration each year.
Chinese Culture Days 2000 is sponsored by Missouri Botanical Garden and Chinese Culture
Education and Service and a coalition of organizations such as:
Asian American Business Association
Chinese Culture Association
Family with Children from China
Organization of Chinese Americans
STL Chinese Academy
STL Chinese American News (Scanews)
STL Chinese Association
STL Chinese Language School
STL Modern Chinese School
Tzu-Chi Foundation
Worldway Children's Museum
The St. Louis Chinese American community began in the 1850's. The first settlers
came from small villages along China southern coast.
Now, there are more than 50,000
Americans of Chinese ancestry living in the greater St. Lois Region. |
