Year, 2000." Mr. Lin, an acclaimed soloist, recitalist, and recording artist, founded
the Taipei International Music Festival in 1997 at the invitation of the President of
Taiwan. It was immediately a huge success; the second festival this past May featured a
stellar roster of participants including Gil Shaham, Mark O’Conner, Toby Hoffman, Yo-Yo
Ma, Emanuel Ax, and Leon Fleisher. During the season just past, Mr. Lin made guest
appearances with the Houston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Seattle
Symphony and gave recitals in Taiwan, New York, Washington, D.C., San Diego, and Dallas.
In addition to his homeland, he performs in Germany, Japan, South America, Sweden, and
Finland. He is also active in chamber music, appearing at such festivals as Aspen, Santa
Fe, La Jolla, Chamber Music Northwest, and Ottawa. Mr. Lin is a prominent exponent of
contemporary music, having premiered works by such composers as Bright Sheng, Christopher
Rouse, Elie Siegmeister, George Walker, George Tsontakis, Joel Hoffman, and Tan Dun. In
2001 Mr. Lin will present the New York premiere of the Rouse Violin Concerto with the New
York Philharmonic.
Born in Taiwan, he began his studies at age five. He arrived in New York at 15 and quickly
became a student of Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School, where he now teaches. Mr. Lin
is a prolific and award-winning recording artist for such labels as Sony Classical, Argo,
and Ondine. Several of his Sony discs have won Gramophone and Stereo Review "Record
