U.S. President George W. Bush (R) thanks charitable organizations and Americans helping to support the efforts of disaster relief personnel working to help or find the thousands of victims of the brutal attacks on the United States last week, September 18, 2001. From left to right are: American Red Cross President Dr. Bernadine Healy, Firefighter Michael O'Neill, National Commander of the Salvation Army John Busby, Department of Defense Protective Unit Arthur Penn and Interim President of United Way of America Christopher Amundsen. Both the Pentagon and the World Trade Center Buildings in New York City were attacked September 11 after hijacked commercial jetliners crashed into the buildings.
