On Friday, July 26th, 2002, several members of the Asian community attended Governor Bob Holden's St. Louis Business Leaders Luncheon, held at the Junior League of St. Louis. The purpose of the Luncheon was to attract business community leaders from St. Louis and surrounding areas and introduce them to the Hawthorn Foundation. The Hawthorn Foundation promotes economic development for the state of Missouri. Asian-American attendees were invited by Thomas Cy Wong, a director within the Hawthorn Foundation, as well as President of the newly-formed Pacific-American Campaign Coalition (PACC). The PACC is a non-profit, non-partisan organization devoted to raising the collective voice of Asian Americans in St. Louis within the political arena.
Governor Holden referred to the idea that the key to greater economic development for St. Louis is through education. The luncheon not only provided a chance to meet with the Governor personally, and introduced the merits of the Hawthorn Foundation, but it also provided for excellent economic and community networking.
