Master Chinese Acrobat to Teach Local Youth Circus Troupe
St. Louis, August 20 - 25, 2002

By Scanews Staff

The Circus Day Foundation is bringing Master Xiao Hong Weng to St. Louis to teach Chinese circus arts to the St. Louis Arches --- a local youth circus troupe. The Arches perform regularly with everydaycircus at City Museum. Master Weng will teach them the ancient Chinese circus arts of hoop diving and vertical poles. Their classes will be from 4 - 6 PM. Open master classes are also being offered every evening from 6:30 - 8:30 for beginners, advanced tumblers and teachers. For registration and schedule, call the Circus Day Foundation at 314-436-7676.

When we say, "we teach the art of life through circus education" we really mean it. Circus and life are both about juggling your responsibilities and balancing your priorities. They are about cooperation and communication. They are about what we do, rather than who we are. Circus and life are both about connecting with the world around us. Bringing in a teacher from a foreign country to teach a St. Louis youth how to dive through stacks of hoops may seem like a strange way to teach this. But it's the technique we use.

What: Master Chinese Acrobat to Teach Here

Where: City Museum, 16th St. and Delmar, 3rd fl. circus ring

When: Tues. Aug. 20 through Sun. Aug. 25 / 4 - 8:30 PM

Circus Day Foundation is the non-profit, educational arm of everydaycircus which is based out of St. Louis' City Museum located at 701 N.15th St. Open Tues. - Fri. 9A.M. - 5 P.M. and Sat. & Sun 10 A.M. - 5 P.M.

Circus Day Foundation teaches the art of life through circus education. We work to build character and expand community for youth of all ages, cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Through teaching and performance of circus skills, we help people defy gravity, soar with confidence, and leap over social barriers, all at the same time. CDF brings multicultural organizations, teams and individuals together -- and helps keep circus as a performing art alive for the whole St. Louis metro area.
