The Chinese Culture and Education Foundation (CCEF) is established to usher in the new year of 2002 with many new projects in hand. CCEF is a non-profit, non-partisan and non-sectarian organization with seven distinguished members on its board.
Dr. Joel Glassman is Director of the Center for International Studies and Associate Professor of Political Science at
University of Missouri-St. Louis. In addition, Dr. Glassman has served for many years as President of the Nanjing/St. Louis Sister Cities committee and worked with other community organizations to promote interest in China and East Asia.
Mrs. Anna Crosslin is President and Executive Director of the
International Institute of Metropolitan St. Louis. The International Institute has been building a healthier community by helping newcomers to America become productive citizens and by promoting public awareness of the important contributions ethnic diversity makes to St. Louis' economy
and quality of life.
Dr. Dennis Golden is President and Professor of Education at Fontbonne College. He is a native of New York City. Since coming to Fontbonne in 1995, Dr. Golden has enhanced Fontbonne's commitment to international education and has compact agreements with colleges and universities in Asia and Europe.
Ms. Jeanne Fischer is the founding director of the Worldways Children's Museum. Established in St. Louis in 1996, Worldways presents hands on exhibits designed to foster cross-cultural literacy through adventure and exploration. Worldways features a "Gateway to China" exhibit plus Mexico, Senegal and Philippines.
Mrs. Cecilia Nadal is President of Gitana Productions, a non-profit arts and education company which raises cultural awareness through music, dance and drama performed by international artists. Cecilia is a published poet and has written articles on diversity,
alienation of the poor and
community-based treatment programs.
Dr. Ching-ling Tai has served the St. Louis Community for many years. She is a Chinese language teacher at St. Louis University High School and a part time instructor at St. Louis Community College. Currently she serves as Vice-president of the Chinese American Forum, Vice-president of the St. Louis/Nanjing Sister Cities committee, Vice-president of the Chinese Culture Association, a Board Member of St. Louis Center for International Relations, and a Board Member of the Greater St. Louis/China Business Forum. She was appointed in May, 2001 by Governor Holden as a Commissioner on the Missouri Community Service Commission.
Mrs. Sandy Tsai is a successful entrepreneur with a clear vision to share her good fortune with the community. She started the one and only St. Louis Chinese American News in September 1990. This free weekly publication serves the Chinese St. Louisans who depend on it for information as well as a bridge to connect the Chinese Americans with the larger society.
These seven board members carry a mission to promote understanding and cooperation between the Chinese and English-speaking communities in the St. Louis region. The CCEF Board of Directors includes distinguished members of both communities who are dedicated to increasing interest and understanding of Chinese and Chinese-American culture.
American society is an amalgam of persons coming from many different countries and cultural backgrounds, including China. Through the merging of cultures, Chinese culture has become a part of American culture. CCEF supports publications, lectures, workshops, and other programs that present to all Americans Chinese culture and its contribution to the American experience.
