ST. LOUIS, June 18, 2002 - St. Louis has long been known as a melting pot of cultures from around the world. The 22nd annual Fair Saint Louis, which runs July 4, 6-7, will celebrate that tradition with the Global Village: Saluting St. Louis' Ethnic Heritage, a new addition to this year's Fair, located south of the Arch. The Fair is also recognizing that tradition with its first-ever theme - "Many Colors, One Flag, One People."
Guests will enjoy cultural exhibits, arts-and-crafts demonstrations and a variety of ethnic foods from around the world. Produced in association with the International Institute of St. Louis, The St. Louis Center for International Relations, and other cultural institutions, performances in the Global Village will be part of the Fair's continuous entertainment schedule.
The St. Louis Public Library will show people how to explore their genealogy from the comfort of their own home, while the Missouri Historical Society will provide an exhibit detailing the vast diversity of St. Louis neighborhoods. Thirteen of St. Louis' "sister cities" around the world will have displays highlighting their commerce and tourism.
The Global Village also boasts a performing arts stage with acts that span the world. On Independence Day, there will be presentations of a Vietnamese Unicorn Dance followed by the St. Louis Osuwa Taikio Drums, the Mexican Banda Tesoro and The Murder City Players, a reggae band. The Asaphonics Steelband hailing from Trinidad and Tobago will perform on Saturday, July 6 along with belly dancers from the Aalim Dance Academy and music from La Solucion Latina. On Sunday, there will be Vietnamese Unicorn Dancing, a Greek dance presented by Xroma, Aalim Dance Academy performances, a performance by Latin and Persian artist Farshid Etniko from their newly released CD "Nightmare in Heaven", and music by the Latin group El Caribe Tropical.
Fair Saint Louis is a not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to showcase the civic pride and spirit of the people of Greater St. Louis through an annual patriotic and educational celebration. Fair Saint Louis is the largest three-day Fourth of July Festival in the United States. Its high-quality and diverse events attract all segments of the community in its planning, execution and participation.
