To All Friends in St. Louis Chinese Community
Dear friends:
We were pleased to have the opportunity to gather together to celebrate the 2002 Chinese New Year at UMSL on February 16. We had art performances, a Chinese movie, chess games, children's recreational programs, Karaoke, dancing, and prize drawings. Approximately 1,000 people attended the event. It was a great success.
The success of the event is credited to teamwork of the St. Louis Chinese community. Nine organizations joined us in sponsoring the event: St. Louis Chapter of the Organization of Chinese American, Inc., Center of International Studies of University of Missouri, Chinese Culture Education and Service, St. Louis Chinese Language School, St. Louis Modern Chinese School, St. Louis Chinese Academy, Chinese Student Association of University of Missouri, Chinese Student Association of St. Louis University, and the Association of Chinese Student and Scholars of Washington University. Many organizations and individuals gave financial support. UMSL provided excellent facilities. Many individuals prepared and presented wonderful art performances and programs and/or served as volunteers. Many American friends were among the participants of the event. This event symbolized the unity of the St. Louis Chinese community and the harmony of our community with the US society. We would like to thank again all organizations and individuals involved in the celebration.
We are also grateful for the friendly and factual news reports about the event published in the
St. Louis Chinese American News, including the English article written by
Virginia
Lee, one of our American friends who participated in the event.
The St. Louis Chinese Association (SLCA) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization. It is formed by Chinese individuals who live in the greater St. Louis area. The purposes of the SLCA are to expand the Chinese culture, to safeguard the interests of the Chinese community, and to promote exchanges between the Chinese and other cultures so as to facilitate harmonization and unity among different ethic groups in the society.
In the new year, we would like to work together with all Chinese organizations and individuals in the community. Your continued support would be greatly appreciated. We hope that more and more friends will become SLCA members and join our efforts. Let`s make our Chinese community more active, more united, and filled with caring and love.
We wish you all a good health, happiness and success in the new year!
With best regards.
The Board of Directors of St. Louis Chinese Association
Dr.
MingYi Deng, President
