Anne and Bill Tao, recipients
2002 International Institute Award
Through supporting the International Institute over the past two decades, Anne and Bill Tao have worked tirelessly to increase cross cultural understanding in St. Louis. Anne was first to join the Institute's work, serving on its Board of Directors from 1985 to 1988 as well as on its 70th anniversary gala dinner committee in 1989. In 1994, the institute recognized Bill's outstanding business achievements with its International Award, a biennial recognition of St. Louisans who have strengthened our community's global ties. Then, from 1998-2000, Bill joined the late Margie May to serve as honorary co-chair of the Institute's New Beginnings capital campaign. His personal involvement was critical to the campaign's success, and he and Anne made a generous leadership gift as well, naming the agency's immigration services area. In countless ways, Anne and Bill's commitment to improving intercultural, multiethnic understanding has made a difference in the lives of thousands of St. Louisans.
The International Institute Award is given biennially to an individual or organization whose volunteer work on behalf of the International Institute exemplifies "Peace within yourself, your country, the world." |
