When my daughter Emily was asked where she would like to spend more time for her birthday...in China or Mexico, Emily joyously shouted out China! The person who asked that question was not one of Emily's parents; it was Bernadette, an educator at the Worldways Children's Museum. Since a trip to China was not in our birthday plans, a birthday party at WorldWays Children's Museum was the next best thing.
Emily and her school friends began the party spending time in Mexico. Bernadette had them play for a while in the different areas of the Mexico exhibit. The Mexican adventure ended with a game of bingo which the children loved.
Next, the group journeyed through the tunnel slide that lead to China. Emily and friends Alexa and Chloe agreed that all their classmates loved the slide! In China they proceeded to break up into groups on their own, depending on which part of the exhibit attracted them the most. Some chose the lantern craft, others the stage and still others, the Chinese restaurant. The playtime ended with a dragon parade which every child enjoyed as proven by their happy faces and playful dancing.
Then we adjourned to the party room where Emily was sung to and of course, blew out the candles on her cake. The children ate cake and Emily excitedly opened presents. Several minutes before the parents were due to pick up their children, the party goers were taken to the front of the museum where they ventured across the climbing wall until their parents arrived.
It truly was a fun time...a very different type of party. Great for party parents because the group was organized and well managed - fun for the children because the hour and a half offered a variety of interesting, attention grabbing activities.
Worldways Children's Museum is a "must experience" for every child, whether for a museum visit or a party. Located at 15479 Clayton Rd. in Ballwin, the museum offers three birthday party themes to choose from. We chose the International Games Party, which accommodated up to 20 children. The Lost Treasure Trek party, also one and a half hours is geared for a smaller party of 10 participants. The children follow clues throughout the museum and piece a puzzle together revealing the location of a treasure chest filled with their party favor treats. The last option taking place solely in the Mexico exhibit, is the Fandango party. Based on Josefina, the American Girl doll, it too accommodates 10 children. Party goers decorate cookies and make a corn husk craft.
