The Chinese modern history of democratic government began with the founding of the Republic of China by Dr. Sun Yat-sen who is revered today on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and by all Chinese around the world. The ROC's initial growth was blighted by foreign aggresion which resulted in World War II. With the participation of the United States and Soviet Russia, victory over the aggressive Axis powers in 1945 justly restored Taiwan to the ROC motherland which, however, became inundated by the Marx-Lenin system of government. The ROC successfully prevented the island of Taiwan from this unundation and began fitfully but devotedly to build the foundations for economic reconstruction and democratic government with the vision of eventually recovering the Mainland from its Communist rulers.
The vision and determination of the ROC, with spiritual and material help from its traditional friend, the United States, inspired the people of Taiwan to labor and create the economic achievement and democratic success which today have become models admired by much of the world. These achievements are rightly and proudly proclaimed as "The Taiwan Experience" and "Taiwan Miracle" for what we have accomplished and also for what we are now prepared to do..
Taiwan is now able to become the opposition party in the present two states-systems, PRC and ROC. The majority system, PRC, is the ruling Mainland party of this nation. The minority system, ROC, is the opposition Taiwan party. Taiwan as a whole is the Opposition Party, not necessarily organized as a political body but an inspiring and challenging idea and spirit to bring human rights and values for the betterment of all the people in our ancient nation. The Taiwan Opposition is a concept for the rebuilding of all China into a great nation, to be realized not only for the sake of over a billion people in it but also for peace, harmony and happiness of the world. This has been the ideal of China's civilization for many centuries which Taiwan now can help make feasible and attainable with the new spirit of democracy that blesses this beautiful island.
