On Saturday, October 26th come join the University City Community Forum (UCCF), St. Louis Chinese American News (SCANews), the University City Police Department and the St. Louis Job Corps Center during Make a Difference Day, a national celebration of the ninth annual events.
UCCF, an independent non-governmental body, is committed to shaping the future of University City by facilitating communications and activities among multi-interest groups within the City on matters of mutual concern. UCCF seeks to generate community-based programs to move the people of University City, the School District and City government forward and become a national model of excellence for inner-suburban cities.
St. Louis Chinese American News (SCANews), located at 8611 Olive Blvd., University City, is the oldest local Chinese / English newspaper in town. SCANews serves the community since 1990. Starting from last year, SCANews works with different associations and organizations on Make A Difference Day projects. To build a communication bridge between Chinese American community and the main stream community is one the most important SCANews' goals. Join UCCF, SCANews is more involved and active this year to help the community.
UCCF is supporting several activities on Make a Difference Day that help solve identified community needs, including but not limited to painting senior citizens homes, having a multicultural affair for non-English speaking senior citizens, building stronger relationships between local law enforcement and the community, an installation of sewer markers and a free community health screening.
Asian Food Market in University City is supporting "Make a Difference Day" to host a free lunch for seniors. The owners, Mr. & Mrs. George and Sandy Tsai, are known in the community for their strong beliefs in philanthropy and volunteerism. They work enthusiastically to build stronger relationship in the multicultural community, to have youth volunteers showing respects to our elders, and to set an example for neighbors helping neighbors.
The Missouri Community Service Commission promotes Make a Difference Day and has done so for the last four years. Dr. Chingling Tai, a commissioner, and Ms. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, an Elderly Advocate from the Office of the Mo. Lt. Governor, jointly promote the two events.
This year Missouri ranks 6th in the nation for the number of projects performed which assist in meeting community efforts. For more information about Make a Difference Day, please log on to
