Gitana Productions - 2003 Faces of Love: East Meets West

Faces of Love: The Show

Gitana (pronounced HE TAH NA) is a St. Louis based production company which brings a global vision of music, dance and drama to our community. Gitana provides a rarely seen diversity on stage taking audience on a journey which stimulates the mind, touches the heart and stirs the soul! Passion, energy and true emotion have always formulated a commonality for all men and women - it's a simple yet complex matter of converting those resources to an artistic format which embraces cultural diversity and moves people.

"Faces of Love: The Show" is an annual performance which takes on different themes with a wide-ranging field of dancers, musicians and actors from across the world.

This year, Gitana will present Faces of Love: East Meets West, featuring acclaimed Japanese contemporary violinist and composer Aska Kaneko. She was joined by a number of American friends, including master pianist Vince Evans, and renowned St. Louis jazz singer Denise Thimes.

Gitana favorites Vivian Watt and percussionist Mike Nelson return for Faces of Love: East Meets West. They are accompanied by bass player Jeff Anderson.

Legendary saxophonist Bobby Watson makes a special appearance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he is Director of Jazz Studies.

Faces of Love: East Meets West is Gitana's first ever touring production. We are bringing the concert to St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri.

"Music is the universal voice of the soul. When different cultures collaborate creatively, the voice is amplified, magnanimous and a force for soul change. This year's show of music, dance and song will leave you changed in a wonderful, peaceful way." - Cecilia A. Nadal, President, Board of Directors.

"Aska's music is infused with a deep sense of tranquility, yet in innumerable places a sheer, unexpected vitality leaps out at the listener. Her performance makes one puzzle over the enigma of life itself"

Gitana Productions complements its global vision of music, dance and drama with local campaigns which elevate the humanitarian spirit. The two local campaigns which Gitana sponsor are:

Extraordinary / Ordinary Person of the Year

The goal of the campaign is to identify citizens who perform extraordinary deeds for others without regard to race or nationality. These deeds are normally performed voluntarily without the desire for recognition. The finalist is recognized at the "Faces of Love" performance. This year's winner is Ms. Jessica Hentoff, Artistic and Executive Director of the Circus Day Foundation. The Circus Day Foundation is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to teach the art of life through circus education. Circus Day Foundation works to build character and expand community for youth of all ages, cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Through teaching and performance of circus skills, Circus Day Foundation helps people defy gravity, soar with confidence, and leap over social barriers, all at the same time.

Recognition of Local Non-Profit Agency

A non profit agency that has made a significant contribution to the St. Louis community is selected by the Board of Directors and is then recognized in all of the advertising for the "Faces of Love" performance. This recognition increases the profile of that agency and the agency benefits from a portion of the proceeds derived from ticket sales.

Both of the campaigns are strategically important in demonstrating that local and global humanitarian efforts are inextricably tied to each other.
