Earthquakes, Engineering and Dental Health at the Science Center By Eric Keung, Scanews staff Learn about earthquakes, engineering and dental health during three special "Scientists at the Center" in February at the St. Louis Science Center, 5050 Oakland Ave. "Scientists at the Center" is a program that links visitors with experts and scientists in our community involved in a variety of science fields. Feb. 8 - Learn about the affects of earthquakes with hands-on displays, demonstrations and videos during "Scientist at the Center" with scientists from the Missouri Seismic Safety Commission. The program illustrates how earthquakes cause damage to buildings, soil and other objects. Free literature and giveaways are available to visitors. 10 am-2 pm; free. Feb. 15 - The St. Louis Dental Health Society presents a special "Scientist at the Center" program honoring Children's Dental Health Month. Join Sam the Smile-O-Saurus and the Tooth Fairy for face painting, contests and other fun activities. Children learn the importance of dental hygiene and receive free "dental goodies." Any child that brings in their old toothbrush will receive a new toothbrush. Noon-3 pm, free. Feb. 22-23 - Engineer's Week brings fun exhibits and hands-on activities to "Scientists at the Center." This program teaches children about electrical, automotive and other types of engineering. Robots and child-orientated demonstrations make this an event for the whole family. 10 am- 2 pm, free.
