2002 Youth Leadership Award Winner:
Miss Pearl Ng

Pearl Ng is a senior at Parkway North. In addition to outstanding GPA, Pearl has received the following awards since 9th grade.

1. Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville Art Award
2. Prudential Spirit of Community Local Honoree
3. National Young leaders Conference Nominee
4. National Honor Society Member
5. International Thespian Society Member.

Pearl is a pleasure to be around. She loves life and is well respected by her peers. She is active in various organizations after school hours; drama, student council, French Cadet Teaching, TASK (Team Activities for Special Kids), Junior Achievement, the literary magazine, peer teaching and thespian activities.

Pearl is civic-minded and frequently participates in many community service projects. She is grounded, never seeks the spot light - a true leader among her classmates and friends. Whatever commitment Pearl makes, she follows through.

Last year, she helped organize the first annual Sports Fest at Parkway North. Pearl's sense of responsibility along with her organization skills helped make this special event for 90 disabled children a tremendous success.

During the past three years, Pearl also has participated in Food Outreach, Alzheimer's Walk, A Tasteful Affair (AIDS Benefit), American Cancer Center and every sport involved with TASK.

Her strength also lies in artistic endeavors. Pearl was selected to work at the Seventeen Magazine Spring 2002 Fashion Show and at the Discover Beauty Supply Show as a Sebastian Hair Model and most recently was selected to Homecoming Court.

Pearl works diligently at becoming bilingual, and is a superb example of one who is open to the cultures of others. Her appreciation of the global community is evident in her assay for this Youth Leadership Award. - "What value can diversity bring, create or contribute to society?"

Pearl wrote, "It is that of acceptance that has lead to a more successful society. Leading to a more efficient humanity, diversity has set off a chain reaction in our world that has greatly contributed to almost every human's life. We are a beautiful mosaic; the differences make it interesting, but the meaning of growth in awareness and knowledge are what make it count."
