Anheuser Busch Asian Day Celebration
19, 21, 22 May, 2003

By Scanews Staff

The Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA), St. Louis Chapter was honored to be part of the Asia Days celebration at the Anheuser-Busch (AB) Company. This event took place three times in Anheuser-Busch facilities on May 19, 21, and 22. Jimmy and Sophia Liu, Ming Hui Zou, Jason Tang and Matthew Yu from OCA, St. Louis were among the participants. Management Systems Group (MSG), the corporate Information Technology organization at Anheuser-Busch, formed a Diversity Council in the Fall of 2003. The responsibility of the Diversity Council is to heighten awareness of diversity among MSG's 1200 employees and contractors.

To accomplish this, the council has sponsored diversity training for managers. This training challenges attendees to learn about the many various aspects of diversity and understand that diversity is not simply focused on race and gender. In time, they hope to provide this training for the entire staff.

In addition to formal training, people on the council have planned to boost diversity awareness by focusing on cultural differences. Anheuser-Busch is an organization composed of people from many cultures from all over the world. And Anheuser-Busch holds the honor of being the world's largest brewer, providing enjoyment to people around the world by manufacturing and selling the world's finest beer brands. They are truly the world's beer company. Leaders on the diversity council decided to leverage this theme as a vehicle for boosting diversity awareness by inviting our staff to develop a greater appreciation of cultures around the world and of the cultural differences among the work force.

So they have conducted two cultural appreciation days: India Days in January, and Asia Days in May. Each of these days has consisted of various displays of art and music. They also provided a variety of different foods from various cultures. And they have provided interesting demonstrations of arts that depict unique cultural aspects. Anheuser-Busch sought the help of OCA in connecting us with artists who could visit us and demonstrate their skills at the Asia Days.

Part of our Asia Days event focused on the culture of China. The artists, who visited us, with the help of our contact through OCA, St. Louis president, Matthew Yu provided a very beautiful and interesting depiction of Chinese culture that was thoroughly enjoyed by all attendees.
