Maria Chappelle-Nadal is a University City native. She was educated in University City and Clayton public schools and is a graduate of Georgia State University.
Making a difference in the lives of Missourians is a priority for Maria. She understands the true importance of inclusion and building coalitions, which has influenced her course of action and relationships with grassroots organizations that have an immediate impact on the policies that affect the lives of Missourians.
Maria began working for Lt. Governor Joe Maxwell in 2000, as the director of communications. With her exceptional skills proven, Maria chose to serve as Missouri's Senior Advocate. There she successfully shepherded legislation such as the Senior Care and Protection Act of 2003 and the Missouri Senior Rx Generic Drug Rebate.
Maria is a local champion who works hard for multiple issues including economic development and volunteerism through organizations such as the Missouri Community Service Commission and the University City Community Forum. She is also an active member of the Young Democrats of Missouri and Missourians Against Handgun Violence. In 2002, Maria was one of sixteen national fellows chosen by the National Organization for Black Elected Legislative/Women (NOBEL/Women) and the Center for American Women in Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers University.
Rep. Betty L. Thompson is approaching the end of her term. The August 3, 2004 primary election is a great opportunity to choose someone who is full of energy and experience, has fresh ideas and high standards.
