2003 Solutia STARS Award for Excellence in Research
Lance Cai of Marquette High School


ST. LOUIS, OCTOBER 23, 2003- Two Rockwood high school students have been recognized for their distinguished participation in the 2003 Solutia STARS program, which took place this summer at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. 

Lance Cai of Marquette High School and Liliya Nemirovskiy of Lafayette High School each recently received a 2003 Solutia Award for Excellence in Research for the projects they pursued during the program. Lance's area of study involved "Describing the Meta-Utility Matrix for the Pessimism and Resentment Model of Negotiation Games." Liliya's research project involved the "Identification of Genetic Mutations in Patient DNA as a Cause of Juvenile Paget's Disease." 

STARS, which stands for Students and Teachers as Research Scientists, is a six-week summer program that pairs 11th and 12th grade students and high school teachers with research mentors from UM-St. Louis, Washington University and Saint Louis University. The program is sponsored by Solutia Inc., the National Science Foundation and the three universities.
