| On Friday,
July 16th, Master Henry Poo Yee came to visit
Peter Scheers and his students at the St.
Louis branch of the Southern Praying Mantis
Federation School. Master Yee spoke at a reception
on Friday and gave open demonstrations on
Saturday and Sunday. Peter Scheers is the
head instructor of the St. Louis branch school
(314-921-5955).
Master Yee founded the Chinese Kung Fu
Academy (C.K.F.A) of Southern Praying Mantis
Kung Fu Federation U.S.A. in 1982 in the
state of Florida. He was born in Toi San
county of the Canton province in China but
was raised and educated in Hong Kong and
the United States. Master Yee started his
martial arts training in the 1940's and
50's with the southern styles of Hung Tao—Choy
May, Bok Hok, and Bak Mei.
In 1955 he immigrated to New York and studied
with grandmaster Lam Sang. After grandmaster
Sang left for Taiwan, Master Yee teamed
up with Sifu Peng Chan. In 1980 Master Yee
was involved in an automotive accident and
sustained major injuries including partial
paralysis. He was reunited with grandmaster
Lam Sang after deciding to seek herbal Dit
Da treatment. Master Yee moved to Florida
in order to have a tranquil, peaceful place
to regain his health and concentrate on
his studies. This is where grandmaster Lam
Sang told Master Yee to teach Kung Fu to
the general public.
Currently, federation members are located
all around the world. The goals for the
federation are:
Learn Kung Fu for the health of the mind
and body
Implement politeness, dignity, loyalty,
and the care to mankind
Discipline one's behavior to set good examples
Promote Chinese Kung Fu along with its culture
