Arm styling, poise, coordination and various dance styles will be featured in this class for students in grades 3 through 5. Held on Saturdays from September 17 ?January 14, the class will taught by ballroom dance competitor and instructor, Angi Heien. Heien has been referred to as the "pied piper of ballroom dancing" for young people.

Heien notes that ballroom dancing promotes development of good manners and etiquette. "Dancing teaches partnership," she notes, "because you have to ask the other to dance and work at dancing together." In addition, she says that students learn posture techniques and rhythm through partner dancing.

The documentary film "Mad Hot Ballroom" features students in New York's public schools participating in ballroom dancing competition. The movie follows the students as they grow and learn, both in dance and in life. The fifth graders face many challenges throughout the course of uplifting, critically acclaimed movie.
