哥侖比亞密蘇里大學校友 Mary Nell Porter 為密大建設表演藝術中心慷慨捐贈一百萬元。此中心為校園中藝術村建設的第一期工程，藝術村將包括音樂、戲劇和視覺藝術的教學樓、音樂聽和畫廊，是校園宏偉建設的一個重要組成部分，也體現了校方對藝術學院發展的極力支持。Potter
於1969年畢業於密大商學院, 曾積極支持密大的藝術、音樂和戲劇系學生的活動，包括每年一度音樂系研究生到紐約卡奈基音樂聽的演出。不幸的是她今年四月逝世，生前謹在捐贈儀式上獲得由密大校長回贈的梁教授為她畫的肖像的草圖，未能看到最後完成的創作。此捐贈是密大99年至05年的
All We Call Mizzou 捐贈活動的一部分，目標為六億元，至今已獲得五點三七億元。
為紀念 Porter 和弘揚她的慷慨捐贈精神，哥侖比亞密蘇里大學決定為她繪畫肖像置放在未來的表演藝術中心大聽。經過人文學院院長及校方委員會的慎重篩選，梁藍波教授的草圖獲勝。梁教授最後完成的創作具有極高的藝術水準，不謹形象酷似，而且展現了
Porter 的精神境界：慈祥、慷慨、自信的偉大精神。此水彩肖像畫現暫展出於密大 Lowry Hall，等待中心的建成。
如人們所熟悉，梁藍波教授以抽象畫和狂草書法馳名畫壇，但這幅肖像卻展現了他深厚的古典寫實主義的功力。梁教授認為："寫實或抽象都只是作品表面的形式，藝術家真正要表現的是精神，無論那種形式都可以殊途同歸。"梁藍波現為北京中央美術學院書法與繪畫比較研究准博士，哥侖比亞密蘇里大學藝術系終身教授，研究生導師及素描教研室主任。其作品曾在世界各地畫廊、博物館舉辦個人畫展五十多次，聯展二百多個，曾二十多次獲獎。其一百四十平方米的狂草書法「物華天寶、人傑地靈」被美國政府以花崗岩永久鑲嵌於舊金山公園，他的作品被舊金山亞州藝術博物館、史丹福大學藝術博物館、聖路易斯大學藝術博物館、廣東美術館、澳門藝術博物館等世界十多個博物館和上百個公共機構所珍藏。其成就被列入世界六十多種名人辭典，如美國的《世界名人錄》、英國劍橋的《國際傳記辭典》、中國北京的《中華人物辭海o當代大文化卷》等。其藝術與教學成就曾被載入美國白宮《國會記錄》。為表彰其藝術貢獻與成就，1999年美國舊金山市政府由布朗市長公告將11月19日定為「梁藍波日」。
Professor Lampo Leong was commissioned to paint a portrait
of Mary Nell Porter
In July of 2005 The University of Missouri-Columbia commissioned
artist Lampo Leong to paint a portrait of one of the University
most important patrons, Ms. Mary Nell Porter, who donated one Million
dollars to the College of Arts and Science to build a new performing
arts center. The portrait is quite extraordinary in that the medium
is actually watercolor however the visual effect is that of an oil
painting. It depicts Ms. Porter standing confidently in front of
the Carnegie Hall concert stage symbolizing her great dedication
to the fine arts and in particular her support of the musical arts.
The classical representational portrait uses colors reminiscent
of Vermeer bringing an almost golden tone to the overall painting.
The portrait is on display temporarily in the lobby of Lowry Hall
on Mizzou campus. It permanent position will be in the lobby of
the future Performing Art Center to be built in the coming years.
Lampo Leong is an internationally renowned painter, calligrapher
and multimedia artist, who received his BFA from the Guangzhou
Academy of Fine Arts in China and MFA with High Distinction from
the California College of the Arts in San Francisco/Oakland. A
Ph.D. candidate at the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts
in Beijing, Leong is currently a tenured Associate Professor of
Art at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has also influenced
thousands of students across the nation, from San Francisco to
Savannah, in institutions such as University of California at
Berkeley, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Stanford University
and University of Minnesota at Twin Cities. He has served as juror
for San Francisco Art Commission, Missouri State Fair Art Exhibition
and Best of America national juried exhibition.
Professor Leong's work has been featured in more than 50 solo
and 200 group exhibitions in museums and galleries all over the
world in national and international juried exhibits. He has also
collaborated with dancers, musicians and composers such as Lily
Cai, Chanticleer, Gang Situ, Yi Chen and Thomas McKenney for multimedia
performances and digital film premiered in San Francisco Yerba
Buena Center for the Arts and St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase. His
artworks are widely collected by museums and corporations internationally,
including Cantor Center for the Visual Art at Stanford University,
Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Macao Museum of Art in Macao,
Guangdong Museum of Art in China; as well as Disney World in Florida,
The Westin Surabaya in Indonesia and The Tokyo Westin in Japan.
