The Community Music School of Webster University's
String Orchestra, which presented its first
concert in 1979, begins its second quarter
century with a concert featuring Faure's
Pavane, Opus. 50, "Allegro" from
Telemann's Sonata No. 1, Robert W. Smith's
Russian Folk Rhapsody, the first movement
of Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D Major, and
Grieg's Lyrische Stucke.
The String Training Ensemble, formed for
younger string musicians from the original
String Orchestra in 1990, will perform Downtown
Suite for Strings by Jay-Martin Pinner,
and arrangements of A Tribute to the 3 B's,
and Corelli Suite.
The two orchestras will celebrate their
shared 25-year history - and Mrs. Gotman's
25 years as founding conductor of the String
Orchestra - with special presentations and
a reception. String Orchestra alumni interested

Who: The String Training Ensemble is comprised
of string students ages 7 and up, and the
String Orchestra is comprised of string
students ages 9 and up from across the metropolitan
St. Louis area who audition to perform in
these beginning and intermediate-level string
ensembles as a complement to their school
music programs.
