The event was held Sunday, July 10 at 33 university locations across the United States and Canada. Locally, the Washington University in St. Louis site welcomed nearly 200 young math enthusiasts.

The Kumon Math Challenge was 40 minutes in duration for students in grades 1-5 and an hour for students in grade 6-10. The top 10 students in each grade will receive scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,500.

Just in time for the new school year, winners will be announced by September 2005.

Kumon Math and Reading Centers, an after-school supplemental education program, has hosted the challenge each summer since 1998 to give children the opportunity to challenge their math skills in the summer, practice test-taking in a university environment and win scholarship money for doing well in math.
