UNIVERSITY CITY (March 27, 2006): The City Council of University City announced today the appointment of City Manager Julie Szymula Feier who will report to her new position in late May. She succeeds City Manager Frank Ollendorff, a 26-year veteran who is retiring in July.
Feier is not new to University City. For the past four years, she has been City Administrator for Salida, Colorado. Prior to then, however, she had been the Assistant City Manager in University City for fifteen months. Feier also previously served as the Assistant to the City Manager in Ferguson, Missouri and the Acting Village Administrator in Swansea, Illinois.
"I’d like to thank the City Council for giving me an opportunity to be part of the city’s leadership team." Feier said. "It gives me a great sense of honor to return to U. City and serve the citizens and employees of this remarkable community."
Feier's appointment came at the conclusion of a year-long process undertaken by the Council starting in February 2005. Third Ward Councilmember Arthur Sharpe, Jr. chaired the effort.
"The Council worked for a year to come to consensus on the type of City Manager we wanted, the professional background we needed, and to conduct a nationwide search for a new City Manager," Sharpe said. "It was a great experience to talk with all Councilmembers about their thoughts on the University City of today, and their vision for the future. I know we have hired a true professional who has the energy and enthusiasm to assume the reins from Frank Ollendorff."
Feier received her Masters Degree in Public Administration from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. She is a Credentialed Manager with the International City Management Association. She and her husband Matt have an eleven-month-old daughter Fiona. The family will reside in University City.
The City Council will introduce Feier to the community at a public reception 6-8:30pm Thursday, April 6 at Centennial Commons, 7210 Olive. All U. City residents are welcome to attend.
