The 2006 US-Taiwan Technology and Industry Summit Forum is the largest annual event since its inception four years ago. The event will bring together over 500 technology and business professionals from North America and Taiwan to promote the partnership and collaboration that could stimulate the economic growth of both countries.The five-day program will focus on the transformation of Taiwan industry from a manufacturing- based to a more value-added, knowledge-based economy. In addition to the policy and strategy summit forum, three separate technology conferences will address telecommunication, medical devices and biotechnology in healthcare and environmental science. The program will lead to Computex 2006, the largest computer trade show in the world on June 6-10.
The 2006 US-Taiwan Technology and Industry Summit Forum is among the most important conferences in Taipei this year. The event is directed and supported by four ministry level departments of the Executive Yuan (Cabinet) of Taiwan: The Science and Technology Advisory Group, Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Science Council and Overseas Compatriots Affairs Commission. The organizers include North America Taiwanese Engineers' Association, Silicon Valley Taiwanese American Technology Association, and Taiwan Industrial Technology Association. Some conferences are also co-organized by some of Taiwan's technology leaders and universities such as Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Technology Policy Research Center of National Applied Research Lab, ChungHwa Telecom Corporation, Institute of Information Industry (III), National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU).Two most distinguished leaders of the country, President Chen Shui-bian and Premier Su Tseng-chang will also be invited to the summit forum. Premier Su will give a keynote speech at the Summit Forum opening ceremony to layout the government's vision of the technology and economic transitions in the upcoming years.
