CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION DAY: October 28, 2006,Forest Park Community College Cafeteria, 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.IMMIGRATION ATTORNEYS GIVE FREE ASSISTANCE TORESIDENTS WHO ARE READY TO APPLY FOR U.S. CITIZENSHIP

St. Louis - The Immigrant Rights Action Task Force, a project of Jobs With Justice, and the St. Louis Chapter of AILA, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, have joined together to co-sponsor a Citizenship Application Day.

Any immigrant who is eligible and ready to make application for U.S. citizenship can receive free assistance from an immigration attorney on Saturday, October 28 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.by coming, with all the necessary documents, to the Cafeteria at Forest Park Community College,5600 Oakland Avenue, just off Highway 40. Over a dozen immigration attorneys have volunteered their time for that day.

Eligible applicants are permanent residents who are 18 years of age, who speak English, have no criminal record, who have had a "green card" for five years (or three years, if married to a U.S. citizen) and who have paid taxes during that period of time. In order to be processed, applicants must bring their "green card," their passport, any court records, marriage and/or divorce records, all children's birth certificates, a list of all trips taken since they became a permanent resident, a list of all addresses in the last five years and a list of all employers in the last five years.

The Immigrant Rights Action Task Force was formed after the Immigrant Freedom Ride in 2003 when over 1,000 St. Louis immigrants and community supporters greeted 90 freedom riders who arrived here by bus as they crossed the country to raise the cry for comprehensive immigration reform. The Task Force has since engaged in both community education and action projects in a two-prong effort to win Congressional reform of a broken immigration system and workers' rights.

Further information about Citizenship Application Day and/or about the work of the Immigrant Rights Action Task Force can be obtained by contacting immigrantrights@stl-jwj.org or by calling the Jobs With Justice office at 314-644-0466.
