U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $494,000 in the State of Missouri

The U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced $494,000 in investments to the State of Missouri to boost business development and job growth.

"President Bush believes one way to create jobs is to grow the economy by encouraging investments in local communities," said U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Sandy K. Baruah. "These EDA investments will help attract new business opportunities and create higher-skill, higher-wage jobs for local citizens."

"The Economic Development Administration has helped create jobs and grow the economy in communities across Missouri and the rest of the nation. These funds will mean even more of our small towns and rural areas receive the help they need to become magnets for growth," said Senator Kit Bond.

        The investments include:

        * $280,000 to Sainte Genevieve County to help build a new access road to facilitate the expansion plans of two area businesses. The project is expected to generate $50.4 million in private investment and help 24 new jobs.

        * $52,000 investment to the Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission of Dexter, MO. The investment will continue a comprehensive economic development planning program.

        * $52,000 investment to the South Central Ozark Council of Governments of Pomona, MO. The investment will continue a comprehensive economic development planning program.

        * $55,000 investment to the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning & Economic Development Commission of Perryville, MO. The investment will continue a comprehensive economic development planning program.

        * $55,000 investment to the Meramec Regional Planning Commission of St. James, MO. The investment will continue a comprehensive economic development planning program.

EDA serves as a venture capital resource to meet the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States. EDA’s mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
