As winter melts into spring, now is the time to make plans for your daughter's summer vacation. The Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis is now registering girls for summer camp and programs.
Summer programs range from resident camps - specializing in everything from theatre arts to horseback riding - to one-day programs called Larks that focus on a special activity or interest.
Thousands of parents choose to send their daughters to Girl Scout summer programs because they offer enriching opportunities to help girls grow strong. Girls choose these programs because they know they'll have fun, make friends, and build a lifetime of memories.
The Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis' three resident camps offer a variety of programs and activities to meet a girl's interests, like swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, horseback riding, sports and games. Girl Scout camp also offers challenging experiences such as biking, canoeing and the Outdoor Adventure Course. Girls can choose from a three-day to a one-month camp.
If going to camp during the day is more your daughter's style, she can attend a Girl Scout day camp in a park near her home. Some day camps actually take place in the evenings and on weekends.
The council also offers one-day Larks, which take girls on fun and educational adventures throughout the greater St. Louis area. Girls may join a simulated space mission, tour the Muny Theater, or learn a new skill such as badminton or caring for a pet.
Girl Scout camp has levels and activities for girls 5-17 and provides experiences that help girls develop confidence, cooperation and responsibility. Girl Scout camp appeals to all abilities, budgets and personal schedules. Activity scholarships are available.
Girls do not have to be a current member of Girl Scouting to register for Girl Scout camp. Registration is by mail and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Online registration is available for current Girl Scout members.
The Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis' camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), which means they have met or exceeded the camp profession's highest standards in up to 300 areas including health, safety and program quality.
