GIRL SCOUTS OF EASTERN MISSOURI FORMED

        As of October 1, 2007, more than 64,000 girls and 17,000 adult volunteers are now served by the newly formed Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.The new council unites the former Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis and Girl Scouts of the Becky Thatcher Area, to efficiently serve the City of St. Louis and 28 surrounding eastern and northern Missouri counties. The council’s two service centers are located in St. Louis and Hannibal.

        "Preparing our members to become the next generation of community leaders continues to be the focus of this council," said CEO Marcia Barber, "and supports the overall philosophy of leadership development of Girl Scouts of the USA. Through contemporary programming opportunities, we achieve the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character."

        This merger is part of a national initiative by Girl Scouts of the USA to realign 310 councils into 109 enhanced councils. The new structure will make the most effective use of resources and deliver a strong Girl Scout leadership development program.
