Nominations open for new Girls and Women of Distinction program

        St. Louis, MO - Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM), the preeminent leadership organization for girls, is launching a new event that will honor ten girls and ten women in ten different categories, called "Girls and Women of Distinction." Nomination forms for the award are available online at www.girlscoutsem.org, or may be picked up at the GSEM Service Center at 2130 Kratky Road, St. Louis, MO. Nominations are due no later than Friday, January 11, 2008.

        Recipients of the award will be honored at the Girls and Women of Distinction event to be held in late April or early May at an elegant St. Louis venue. Nominees in the women's division should be over the age of 18; nominees in the girls division should be in grades 3-12 (ages 8-18). Girls do not have to be registered Girl Scouts to be nominated. The Girl of Distinction honored in each category will receive a $500 college scholarship or a $500 contribution to her 529 education savings plan.

        Nominees in both divisions should "exhibit courage, confidence, and character and make the world a better place." Nominees in both divisions may be nominated in the following ten categories: Creative Arts, Entrepreneurship, Government & Legal, Inspiration, Numbers, Practical Arts, Social Sciences, Sports & Fitness, Technology, and The Sciences (see Nomination Form for details). Nominees must reside within the jurisdiction of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri as noted below.
