St. Louis, MO - It's Girl Scout cookie time! Beginning Jan. 12 and continuing through Jan. 27, local Girl Scouts will be taking cookie orders. And for the eleventh consecutive year, cookies are only $3 per package.
For several months before the cookie program kicks off, girls and troops determine their cookie goals and set out to accomplish both individual and group success. The Cookie Program teaches girls financial responsibility, business proficiency and lifetime skills.
"The Cookie Program is an integral part of the Girl Scout leadership development program," said Marcia Barber, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. "Through this opportunity, Girl Scouts gain valuable skills, including money management, decision making and goal setting."
All proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program stay within the local council to benefit area girls. Troops retain a percentage of the price of each package to fund activities such as field trips and community service projects planned by the girls throughout the year. Proceeds also help the council deliver programs for girls, provide training and materials for adult volunteers, and maintain local Girl Scout camps.
