ST. LOUIS, MO - Today, St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley announced his endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President. Dooley has spent his life working on behalf of the families of St. Louis County and believes that good government stems from talented, hard-working office holders who benefit from the wisdom of informed and engaged citizens.
"I am inspired by the movement Senator Obama has begun and I am proud to support his campaign for change," Dooley said. "Speaking as a County Executive, you need to be able to bring people together in order to get things done. Barack Obama has spent his life building coalitions and making a difference - he is the leader we need in the White House."
As St. Louis County Executive, Dooley is the highest ranking official in a County often called "Missouri's Economic Engine" with a budget in excess of $500 million for a population of a million people. Charlie A. Dooley grew up in St. Louis, joined the Army in 1965 and was stationed in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. He spent thirty-years working for McDonnell-Douglas while also serving his community in a variety of roles including mayor of the city of Northwoods, president of the Missouri Chapter of Black Mayors, a two-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention, St. Louis County Councilman and, now, as St. Louis County Executive.
"From Vietnam to St. Louis County, Charlie Dooley has spent his life serving the people of Missouri and I am honored to have his endorsement," Obama said. "He knows how important it is for all of us to work together for change we can believe in."
Dooley's endorsement comes as momentum continues to build behind Senator Obama's campaign for change and Missouri voters prepare for their primary on February 5, 2008.
