Anna Lum and Rich O'Donnell recently hosted a dinner of appreciation for members of the St. Louis community who were pivotal in the success of the 5 city China Goodwill Music Tour last summer, sponsored by New Music Circle, Regional Arts Commission and St. Louis Chinese American News. Not pictured are Francis and May Wu Yueh and Xinsheng Jiang. Shabby compared to the 30 course feasts the tour members were served in China, the best that Lum and O'Donnell could offer was 9 courses including birds nest soup and crab Rockefeller.

New Music Circle, as part of its CAMA initiative, presents the first North American performance of KAI WAN SING. Originally exported to China during the summer of 2007, KAI WAN SING is the first world wide outreach by New Music Circle. The piece, a combination of poetry and percussion, translates as "open play sound." Inspired by the burgeoning experiences of the five-cityChina Goodwill Tour, KAI WAN SING revels in the multi-cultural state of new music. Featured performers include long-time avant garde improvisor andretired St. Louis Symphony principal percussionist RICH O'DONNELL (seesaw drummer), poet ANNA LUM, and percussionists DEB SUMMERS and GLEN "PAPA" WRIGHT. Special guest appearance by GRACE YIN LO reading in Chinese, Lum's poetry translated by award winning novelist QIU XIAOLONG. |
