【時報訊】密蘇里州多元供應處處長Angel McCormick Franks (Director of the Office of Supplier and Workforce Diversity OSWD)，於五月二十二日(周四)在堪薩斯市亞美商會亞裔2008年慶祝會中，獲頒該會2008年社區Outreach獎，出生於聖路易市北區的Angel畢業於聖路易芳邦大學並獲有偉伯斯特大學碩士學位，密州多元供應處由州長Matt Blunt於2005年9月8日成立，任命Angel擔任處長，致力於促進和協助少數族裔和婦女企業發展與州政府間之生意機會，經濟成長及財務狀況。Angel於處長任內相關業務成績卓著，因而獲得此項榮譽獎項。
堪薩斯市亞美商會(The Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Kansa City AACC)成立於1998年，是一個非營利事業機構，宗旨在於提昇和維護亞美企業形象及利益。據2002年經濟普查顯示，大堪薩斯地區亞裔企業數目為 2,856，年度銷售額近10億美元，年度薪資超過一億五千二百萬元，今年來亞美商會及企業對整個社區發展有著顯著的貢獻。

The AACC hosted another successful CelebrASIAN on May 22nd. Many contributed much to this success including the gala committee, the board members, and the volunteers who gave generously of their time and talents. Thanks also to all of the event sponsors and attendees. We could not have done it without your support.
Sachi Koto, former CNN News Anchor, and now business owner was an excellent and thought provoking Keynote Speaker. Surae Chinn of KCTV-5 served as our delightful Mistress of Ceremonies for the third year.
Once again, I want to take this opportunity to recognize the awardees. They include: Entrepreneur of the Year-Keith Ahn, Oriental Supermarket; Civic Leader of the Year-Robert Chien, President-The Society for Friendship with China; Professional Leader of the Year-Michael Song, Executive Director-Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Community Outreach Person of the Year-Angel McCormick Franks, Director-Workforce and Supplier Diversity for the State of Missouri; and Corporation of the Year-Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Young Sexton, founder of the scholarships, presented $2,500 scholarships to the following graduate students at UMKC. Tang Wang was awarded the Founder's Scholarship for Academic Excellence, and Yiwen Jiang was awarded the Founder's Scholarship for Leadership Excellence.
We were especially honored to have special guest, Staff Sergeant Tom S. Woo in attendance. Staff Sgt Woo is the Marine Corps' enlisted recipient of the 2008 Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC) Meritorious Service Award. He will be presented the award at the FAPAC miulitary awards luncheon held in New York in late June.
I am pleased go announce our 2008 Board of Directors and thank them for their past and future contributions to the AACC. They are Gigi Mateo-President, Lotus Millin-Vice President, Secretary-Aisha Reynolds, Treasurer-Suresh Kumar, Simon Kuo-Past President, Yijing Brentano, Sue Drakeford, Siew Lau, Ramesh Lokre, Joseph Melookaran, Paulette Markel, Hoang Nguyen, Michael Nguyen, Suresh Ramamurthi, Young Sexton, Fang Shen, A.P. Singh, and Circe Wu.
Last, gala attendees stepped up to the plate and contributed $672 for China's earthquake relief. Not only did the attendees partipate, but the InterContinental Hotel is generously donating $500 to that effort. Many thanks to all of the contributors.
