Dick Fleming, President and CEO of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, spoke with Fox 2 News on the economic impact of the recent A-B acquisition. He explained how St. Louis will now be home to the world leader in the brewing industry. InBev leaders have affirmed that all breweries will remain open and Fleming notes that A-B is still the lead in the name of the new merger. As to how this will affect the 6,000 St. Louis people employed by A-B, Fleming reiterated the new CEO's emphasis that this is a win-win situation for both InBev and A-B. Fleming listed Boeing, Nestle Purina, and Wachovia Securities as examples of mergers and acquisitions that brought global headquarters to St. Louis, and increased local employment. As a result, the number of Fortune 1000 companies based in the St. Louis region has increased from 17 in 2000 to 21 today. Nine of those companies are in the Fortune 500. |
