After fifteen months of bridge work, the overpass at Kingshighway and Highway 40 will be fully open, clearing the pathway to BJC Healthcare, the area's largest medical complex. The bridge will reopen with three lanes each way and double-left turn lanes on and off most ramps. The opening marks a milestone in the $535 million highway rebuild - the overpass is the largest structure rebuilt so far. Work on Kingshighway will continue north of the overpass. Crews are installing decorative medians and sidewalks requested and paid for by BJC. The $2.4 million project is on schedule to be finished in October.
Work is underway on the final phases of the decade-long project to rebuild Highway 40 across St. Charles County. Construction crews, working westward, are clearing rock and grading earth in the Lake Saint Louis area. When the St. Charles and St. Louis segments are completed by the end of next year, all of Highway 40 in the region will be upgraded as Interstate 64. MoDOT contractors have kept the St. Charles County project going without major traffic closures. |
