ST. LOUIS , Missouri - September 16, 2008 - The Hispanic Leaders Group of Greater St. Louis (HLG) will honor two Missouri state representatives during their 25th anniversary celebration at Sunset Country Club in Sunset Hills , Missouri . The date is October 5, 2008 and the event will take place from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The 2008 Premio Esperanza will be awarded to Representatives Maria Chapelle-Nadal and Timothy Flook. The Esperanza Award (Hope Award) was established by HLG with the purpose of recognizing individuals that have contributed significantly to the Hispanic community. The prize is awarded once a year recognizing the service provided by the awardees for a few years and it's presented during a special event.
Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a Democrat, represents part of St. Louis County (University City , Wellston and Pagedale) in the Missouri House of Representatives (District 72). She was elected to the House in 2004 and re-elected in 2006.
In addition to her legislative duties, Rep. Chappelle-Nadal is a member of Young Democrats of Missouri, Women in the Neighborhood, the Olive Business Association, and the Democratic National Committee.
Rep. Chappelle-Nadal received a Dual Degree in Political Science and Sociology from Georgia State University in Atlanta , Georgia . Born October 3rd to Cecilia A. Nadal and Alonzo Chappelle, Rep. Chappelle-Nadal is a University City native and has Puerto Rican heritage.
Rep. Tim Flook, a Republican, represents part of Clay County near Kansas City (District 34) in the Missouri House of Representatives. First elected to the House in 2004 and reelected in 2006, he is a practicing attorney.
In addition to his legislative duties, Tim is a member of the Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Liberty, the Knights of Columbus and the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Tim is a life longer member of St. James Catholic Church.
Rep. Flook received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Philosophy from William Jewell College in 1989. While at William Jewell, he was also an Honors Scholar studying at St. Peter's College of Oxford University in England . Tim earned his Law degree from UMKC in 1992. Born on February 15, 1967, in Clay County, Missouri, Rep. Flook lives in Liberty , Missouri and has Mexican ancestry.
