【時報訊】聖路易美國銀行慈善基金會(The Bank of America Charitable Foundation)11月18日(周二)宣佈，聖路易國際機構(International Institute)及聖路易愛默生派克發展公司(Emerson Park Development Corporation)兩非營利事業機構獲得該基金會本年度社區卓越貢獻獎，各獲得美金卄萬元獎金，此外還有五位社區領袖及五位高中生同時獲獎。美國銀行密蘇里州總裁Patricia Mercurio在頒獎典禮中表示，美好康健的社區是美國銀行追求的目標，頒獎予在社區服務表現傑出的機構和個人是美國銀行對社區的投資和激勵，使我們所生活居住的社區更加美好。
美國銀行頒獎典禮於11月18日晚間六時半，在聖路易城區St. Patrick中心舉行。這是美國銀行第五屆社區卓越貢獻獎頒獎。獎項分成三大類，「社區構建獎」得主為聖路易兩非營利事業機構，愛默生派克發展公司及聖路易國際機構，各得獎金卄萬元，「地區英雄獎」得主為五位聖路易地區社區領袖，Janet Becker，William Hutchinson， Tom McNeely，Jack Orchard，Fran Pieper，每位得獎人可將個人獎金5千元捐予五個他們指定的慈善機構或組織。「學生領導獎」則頒予五位本地區的高中生，Crystal Cates，Melanie Gilmore，Danielle Hladky，Kathleen McGlynn及Adam Thompson-Harvey。他們分別獲得為期八周在本地慈善機構付薪實習機會，並可參加在華府為期一周之青年領袖高峰會議。
聖路易國際機構(International Institute)成立於1919年，是一個專為照顧移民、難民之非營利事業機構，提供有免費英語課程，移民、難民安頓服務，求職及訓練服務，健康諮詢，經濟發展，社區關懷，語文翻譯和文化教育等服務，國際機構安頓移民、服務難民，照顧的對象涵蓋105個族裔和地區。
位於東聖路易的聖路易愛默生派克發展公司成立於1985年，致力於東聖路易地區社區發展，從最初55條街上的犯罪防制、路燈修復、環境衛生、兒童走失等，一直成長到今年董事會成員13人，全職人員25人，涵蓋整個東聖路易大都會地區之教育、就業、房屋、經濟發展、社區發展之規模。

Emerson Park Development Corporation and International Institute of Metropolitan St. Louis Awarded $400,000 in Unrestricted Funding Through Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation
St. Louis, MO - The Bank of America Charitable Foundation today announced two St. Louis area nonprofits, Emerson Park Development Corporation and International Institute of St. Louis, as recipients of the prestigious Neighborhood Excellence Initiative (NEI) Neighborhood Builder awards. Five community leaders and five local high school students were also recognized for making a difference in the St. Louis community. Neighborhood Builder winners receive $200,000 in unrestricted grants. Bank of America has committed more than $2.2 million in NEI awards in St. Louis.
"Bank of America has long held the belief that a healthy community is a healthy place to do business, and we are committed to creating real impact in the St. Louis community," said Patricia Mercurio, St. Louis President at Bank of America. "The Neighborhood Excellence Initiative underscores our belief that investing in leadership is a sound practice, whether building the capacity of our nonprofit organizations, developing current and emerging community leaders, or preparing our youth for the future."
NEI honors awardees in three categories: Neighborhood Builders - local nonprofit organizations working to promote vibrant communities; Local Heroes - community leaders who contribute significantly to the health of our neighborhoods; and Student Leaders - exemplary high school junior and seniors with a passion for improving our communities. St. Louis' 2008 NEI award recipients are as follows:
Neighborhood Builders - each receives $200,000 in unrestricted grant funding, and the executive director and an emerging leader from each organization participate in a leadership development program sponsored by Bank of America to enhance their strategic skills with other nonprofit leaders across the country and London.
* Emerson Park Development Corporation, based in East St. Louis, boasts an impressive track record in the development of affordable housing in East St. Louis' Emerson Park neighborhood. The organization will use their Bank of American grant to continue helping residents achieve their full human potential by developing,
implementing and evaluating programs and services in the areas of community building, education and job training and housing and economic development.
* Metropolitan International Institute of St. Louis, based in St. Louis, is being recognized as a leader in the area of business development, especially for St. Louis area immigrants and refugees. In addition to a successful financial literacy program, their microloan and technical assistance programs have generated $77 million dollars for the city𡟙n less than ten years. The organization will use the grant from Bank of America to continue revitalizing local neighborhoods through the innovative use of asset building and economic development programs.
Local Heroes - each directs a $5,000 donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to an eligible nonprofit of their choice.

Student Leaders - each participated in a paid, eight-week internship with a local nonprofit organization and in a weeklong leadership summit in Washington, D.C. designed to increase their understanding of how nonprofits, businesses and government partner to create positive change, and to encourage them as future leaders.

Bank of America is one of the few corporations in the U.S. that provides unrestricted grant funding to nonprofit organizations. This practice is based on Bank of America's belief that corporate philanthropy works best when it sustains community efforts that are based on partnership, leadership development and flexible funding.
Including this year's awardees, Bank of America's Neighborhood Excellence Initiative has recognized, nurtured and rewarded more than 400 organizations and over 2,000 individuals. In 2008, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will commit $20 million globally to the initiative, which operates in 45 of the bank's major markets, bringing the total commitment under the program to more than $90 million by the end of this year.
