Under the leadership of United Way Board Chair David Steward, Chairman of World Wide Technology, and 2009 Campaign Co-Chairs Andy Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Doug Albrecht, Chairman of the Bodley Group, the United Way of Greater St. Louis 2008 campaign raised $68.4 million in gifts and pledges --- exceeding the United Way's fund-raising goal of $65.5 million.
This is a testament to the overwhelming generosity of the overall bi-state region, given that while we are the 18th largest metro area, United Way funding here is the 5th largest in the nation. Support by the region's corporate community is a major factor in St. Louis' performance. St. Louis is #1 in the percent of the St. Louis campaign that comes from corporate giving.
We are especially proud of the 611 RCGA member companies and organizations who contributed $53.1 million --- 77% of this year's $68.4 million United Way Campaign.
The United Way reports that more than 2,500 companies were involved in this year's campaign, and more than 200,000 individuals contributed throughout the 16-county, bi-state region. More than 90 cents of every dollar that the St. Louis United Way raises goes into service.
Twelve companies, their employees and participating labor unions, had combined team gifts this year of the more $1 million, respectively. At the $3 million or higher level in team gifts were employees of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., and Edward Jones.
Firms giving $2 million or more in team gifts were employees of Ameren Corp., Emerson, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Monsanto, and the Wachovia Foundation and Wachovia Securities, LLC.
At the $1 million or more level in team gifts this year were employees from AT&T Missouri, the Boeing Company, MasterCard Worldwide, Nestle Purina Petcare Company, and Schnuck Markets, Inc. |
