ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis Science Center offers the cure for the "common camp" this summer with its 2009 Summer Science Blast camps. The newly revamped program includes a variety of exciting sessions for kids of all ages - from preschoolers to teenagers.
Science Center representatives plan to keep families excited about learning all summer with nine weeks of educational camp sessions featuring new topics, like "Sensational Safari," "Amazing Race, ZMD (Zoo Museum District)," "Mythbusting," "Invent - Design - Create" and "Techno Babble."
Other new program offerings for 2009 include advanced tiers of the Science Center's popular "Robots," "Flight Academy" and "Segway Adventure" courses, as well as the addition of two Pre-K and Kindergarten-focused camp sessions.
The week-long Summer Science Blast camps are offered in half- or full-day sessions, depending on the topic. Summer sessions for 2009 begin June 8, and run through Aug. 7. Morning camps run from 9am to 12pm, and afternoon camps are scheduled from 1pm until 4pm.The weekly cost per camper ranges from $100 per half-day session to $350 for full-day sessions, depending on the age of the camper and the session topic. Science Center members receive a $20 weekly discount per camp session, up to $40 per camper for full-day sessions. Flexible extended care options are available, for an additional charge.
A limited number of need-based partial scholarships are available for the Summer Science Blast camps - families should call the Science Center's Public Programs Department at 314.289.4439 to obtain a scholarship application. Scholarship applications must be received by Friday, April 17, 2009 in order to qualify.
Since camp sizes are limited, parents are encouraged to register their children early. Sessions with too few registered campers are subject to cancellation.
