New Pfizer Research Facility Underscores Region's Importance To Company's Future
Overall Pfizer Regional Impact Is 3,000 Jobs And Over $400 Million Annually

RCGA team was pleased to join Missouri Governor Jay Nixon; Pfizer Chairman & CEO Jeff Kindler; St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley; Pfizer Global Research & Development President Martin Mackay; Pfizer South Regional Business Unit President Catherine Schmocker; Pfizer St. Louis Site Leader and new RCGA Board member Don Frail; former St. Louis Site Leader and former RCGA Board member Dan Getman, now Director of Kansas City's Life Sciences Institute; Chesterfield Mayor John Nations; Pfizer scientists and other leaders on Thursday to officially open the company's newly-constructed $200 million, four-story, 330,000 square-foot Research Building in Chesterfield. The building is part of a nearly $350 million Pfizer investment in Missouri since 2003 and is one of four major R&D facilities within the Pfizer Global Research Division.
Pfizer employs over 1,200 scientists in the St. Louis area, who will now, with this new state-of-the-art research facility, work on the same campus; the overall campus makes the St. Louis BioBelt the Global Center for Biologics for the $51 billion company. RCGA Chief Economist Ruth Sergenian estimates that these 1,200 jobs generate an additional 1,800 jobs; these 3,000 total jobs produce an overall regional economic impact of $417 million. Biologics comprise a wide range of medicinal products, such as vaccines, blood and blood components, and gene therapy.The RCGA economic development team initiated and led the initial incentive negotiation meetings back in 2005 between State, local and county leaders; the economic development team subsequently worked with our economic development partners in the State, St. Louis County and Chesterfield, to assemble the final package of incentives.
The completion of Pfizer's Research Facility solidifies the company's designation of St. Louis as its "global center for early stage biotech activity". The State of Missouri and the St. Louis region have worked very hard to convince the Pfizers of the world that St. Louis, the Heart of the BioBelt, is an ideal life sciences location.
