【時報訊】由聖路易工商週報(St. Louis Business Journal)主辦，聖路易社區學院，密蘇里就業中心主持座談之聖路易勞動力市場分析報告及研討會，7月30日早上八時，在聖路易密蘇里植物園舉行。會中指出，目前聖路易地區失業人口高達14萬2千人，而未來數年內本地區最需要的雇用人才為健保醫護人員社工和教育等類別方向，可做為目前失業但希望能在經濟復更生時有一技之長，可以順利進入職場人士之參考。
聖路易勞動力市場分析邀請大聖路易地區各工商企業代表、社區領袖、政府機構相關部門人士與會，四位座談會主持人為Michael Holmes,Gene Gorden， Julie Gibson，Rod Nunn，分別代表聖路易就業中心。聖路易郡勞動力發展部門及聖路易社區學院，他們在會中強調政府相關部門和社區學院共同努力，提供訓練課程，加強提昇聖路易一勞動力，才能度過這次經濟衰退難關。
據了解，目前聖路易失業人口高達14萬，是本地區近年來最高的數字，去年6月失業人口還祗有近6萬人。今年增漲一倍多，顯見聖路易地區經濟之惡化非常顯著，其主要原因有三，第一為全球經濟衰退，第二為密州聖路易這一年來天災不斷，第三則是聖路易汽車業連受重大打擊。
聖路易各企業目前表現平平，投資意願及增聘人員趨勢都不強，但是據市場分析，未來前景還是樂觀的，特別是在教育、社會工作、健保醫護、零售業及交通、庫料管理等方面將有所成長及增加工作機會。
聖路易需要一劑強心針救經濟，研究報告中指出，唯有加強教育、再教育及在職訓練，才能強化及提高勞動力，回應未來經濟發展趨勢，而社區學院各分校及職業訓練課程，將提供聖路易地區失業人口一個再教育機會，以能回應經濟復蘇時之需要。
The State of St. Louis Workforce Report Released
July 30, 2009, St. Louis, MO: The State of St. Louis Workforce Report was released today to an audience of over 250 business professionals at a St. Louis Business Journal seminar. The report profiles the economic landscape of the St. Louis Metro area by examining the business climate, identifying employment trends and patterns of worker dislocation.
The study is a joint effort by St. Louis Community College, St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE), the St. Louis County Division of Workforce Development and Missouri Economic Research Information Center (MERIC). It was created to provide decision makers with critical workforce intelligence they can use to implement effective strategies to address a changing environment for business, economic and talent development for our region.
The report is made up of several parts including the results of a survey of over 1,537 employers focusing on the effects of the recession and plans for a post-recovery period; a survey of 447 dislocated workers asking them about their challenges and plans for re-employment and case studies of six companies providing additional context to the survey data.
"We are pleased to work with our partners to provide workforce intelligence that will guide our worker retraining efforts during a very difficult transitional economy. Real-time labor market information is critical to our success if we are to thread the needle in developing skilled workers for jobs that come back on-line during the economic rebound," said Rod Nunn, vice chancellor of Workforce and Community Development at St. Louis Community College.
