        Former A-B executive named director of UMSL's International Business Institute

        Former Anheuser-Busch executive Steve Burrows has been named director of the International Business Institute at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Most recently Burrows served as the chief executive officer and president of Anheuser-Busch International-Asia.

        During his 30 years with the company, he held several positions. Most notable, the last 15 years he headed up the company¡¦s overseas development, experiencing measurable success in the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, China and India.

        The International Business Institute was formed in 2000 within the College of Business Administration at UMSL, with the goal of continuing to strengthen the international undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Burrows has served on the Institute's advisory board since its inception as both co-chairman and board member.

        Today UMSL has achieved a number of significant milestones including:

        ¡E The International Business program has received a top 20 national ranking by U.S. News & World Report for the last six consecutive years

        ¡E Created the first dual degree program in the St. Louis region in which UMSL and international partnering schools allow students to earn degrees at both institutions

        ¡E The program, called the International MBA program, has partnering schools in China, Japan, India, France, Mexico and Austria

        ¡E Recruited 15 new international scholars from various academic disciplines to the College of Business Administration

        ¡E Helped to form the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education-CUIBE, to exchange best practices between 24 universities across the United States in order to promote the highest quality international business education possible

        Established internships with some of the leading global and Fortune 500 companies including Japan Airlines, Emerson Electric, General Motors, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Monsanto Co.

        ¡E Awarded more than 493 undergraduate degrees with an emphasis in international business and 60 International MBA degrees

        "I'm honored to have this opportunity to work with our top ranked faculty, our partner institutions, the business community of the St. Louis region and our outstanding students," Burrows said. "International business is and will remain an important area for business development for many companies. With the strong international business programs at UMSL, we will prepare our young people to play critical roles in the business community that needs high caliber employees and future leaders in their organizations."

        Keith Womer, dean of the College of Business Administration at UMSL, said Burrows brings experience and insight to the position.

        "Steve's many years of experience in domestic and international management business development, brand development and business operations, makes him an outstanding asset to both the students and faculty here," Womer said.

        Prior to his responsibilities in the international division of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Burrows held senior executive positions in sales and marketing. He began working for the company in 1979 as a sales representative.

        He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater and a master's degree in business administration from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo.
