【時報訊】由聖路易大學張義華教授創建之生物科技公司Mediomics，8月20日榮獲聖路易市市長Francis Slay親自頒發市長聖路易精神獎(Spirit of St. Louis)，表揚該公司在生物科技界之成就和對聖路易市發展之貢獻，頒獎典禮於20日下午一時半在Mediomics公司聖路易市總部舉行，由張義華、孟汶靜博士夫婦代表接受，為聖路易華人自創生技公司之第一位。
聖路易市長聖路易精神獎旨在表揚位於聖路易市之傑出成長企業，由於企業的成長擴充，並在聖路易市設址設廠，直接有助聖路易市之發展，聖路易市市長Francis Slay規劃有數項都市計劃，Mediomics生技公司積極參與，促進聖市之發展。
Mediomics公司於去(2008)年，由聖路易大學旁佔地數百呎之公司擴大搬遷到聖路易市5445 Highland Park Drive現址，新廠佔地4千5百平方呎。
Mediomics生技公司生產製造教學實驗室、藥廠、醫療及環境研究單位之測試應用系統，去年營收25萬元，據張義華教授表示，今年預估之盈收將超過一百萬元。
Mediomics 生技公司由張義華教授於2001年創立，得到政府基金及國家衛生研究所、國土安全部及聖路易發展公司之合作契約，業務蒸蒸日上持續發展，將由目前之6名員工成長至15名員工。
Mediomics 生技公司之測試工具可以協助科學家測試重要之分子，例如生物標誌體、細菌、病毒等之測試，同時可以產生新的生物材料及創造新的治療產品。
Mediomics 生技公司同時擁有與聖路易大學及Calgory大學David Waisman之獨家許可選擇權。
Mediomics wins Spirit of St. Louis Award
St. Louis biotechnology company Mediomics won the Mayor's Spirit of St. Louis Award Thursday from Mayor Francis Slay.
The award recognizes businesses that make major expansions or improvements to their existing locations, open or relocate to the city, and certain major city projects.
The company moved last year from a several-hundred-square-foot incubator next to Saint Louis University to a 4,500 square-foot facility at 5445 Highland Park Drive.
Mediomics, which creates testing applications for academic laboratories, pharmaceutical applications and medical and environmental research markets, expects more than $1 million in revenue in 2009, up from $250,000 last year, said Dr. Yie-Hwa Chang, who founded the company in 2001.
By landing government funding and subcontracts from the National Institute of Health, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the St. Louis Development Corp., Mediomics expects to expand its work force from six to at least 15 employees.
The company's kits help scientists test for important macromolecules such as biomarkers, bacteria and viruses, as well as generate new biomaterials and create new therapeutic products.
Mediomics has exclusive licensing options with SLU and David Waisman at the University of Calgary.
