United Way of Greater St. Louis announced Wednesday the goal for its 2009 fund-raising campaign is $66.5 million.
The campaign starts Sept. 9 and ends early in November. Hugh Grant, president and chief executive officer of Monsanto Co., is this year's United Way campaign chair.
"The needs in our community are real, and our member agencies are helping families and individuals that have never needed help before," said Jim Hoefert, 2009 campaign chair for the Southwest Illinois Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis. "Those of us who are able to make a gift have an incredible opportunity to help those in need."
The Illinois United Way area divisions of Tri-Cities, Southwest Illinois and Illinois, and the Missouri area divisions of Tri-County and Franklin County, also have set their goals for the 2009 campaign, which are included in the overarching $66.5 million goal:
- Southwest Illinois Area Division: $1.95 million goal. Jim Hoefert, vice president and lending officer, Jersey State Bank, is the Southwest Illinois division campaign chair. Southwest serves the Illinois counties of Madison, Macoupin, Jersey, Greene and Calhoun.
- Tri-Cities Area Division: $850,000 goal. Joseph M. Juneau, vice president, Juneau Associates Inc. PC, is the Tri-Cities division campaign chair. Tri-Cities serves the Illinois cities of Granite City, Madison, Venice, Pontoon Beach and Mitchell.
- Illinois Area Division: $1.691 million goal. Ronald A. Buerges, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Allsup Inc., is the Illinois division campaign chair. Illinois division serves the Illinois counties of Clinton, Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair.
- Tri-County Area Division: $3.15 million goal. Brenda Newberry, chairman and CEO of the Newberry Group, is the Tri-County division campaign chair for the second year. Tri-County serves the Missouri counties of Lincoln, St. Charles and Warren.
- Franklin County Area Division: $861,000 goal. James Eckelkamp, senior product manager of Parker Hannifin-Sporlan Division is the Franklin County division campaign chair. Franklin County serves the Missouri cities of Augusta, Beaufort, Berger, Bland, Bourbon, Catawissa, Cuba, Dutzow, Gasconade, Gerald, Gray Summit, Grubville, Hermann, Labadie, Leasburg, Leslie, Lonedell, Luebbering, Marthasville, New Haven, New Melle, Owensville, Pacific, Robertsville, Rosebud, St. Clair, Stanton, Steelville, Sullivan, Union, Villa Ridge, Warrenton and Washington.

The United Way funds nearly 200 health and human service agencies located throughout a 16-county area in Missouri and Illinois. More than 1 million people receive services. |
