| The Cardinals celebrate their 2006 World Series win, October 27, 2006, at Busch Stadium. |

The measurable economic benefits and the national attention that post-season play would bring to the St. Louis region are enough to make even non-baseball fans take notice --- not to mention, it would mean that the Cards had gotten back to their winning ways.
In a just-completed economic impact analysis, RCGA Chief Economist Ruth Sergenian notes that the total economic impact of the Cardinals playoffs could reach $51 million. The amount depends upon the number of games played here in St. Louis, but if the team hosts the maximum of 8 home playoff games, the maximum economic impact could be realized.
These added economic benefits to the region from the full playoffs would be above and beyond the $308 million impact of the just-concluded 2009 Cardinal regular season in which the team drew 3.3 million fans. This would bring the potential year 2009 economic contribution to the region by the Cardinals to an aggregate $359 million.
In this full playoff scenario, in which the Cardinals play two home games against the Dodgers in the National League Division Series, three against the Rockies or the Phillies (depending upon which team advances), and, if they were successful in a National League Championship Series, three potential home games in the World Series, the total economic impact of the playoff run would be approximately $51 million.
Beyond the numbers, here's hoping the team "gets it back into high gear" for the playoff run, like they did in 2006.
