Individuals interested in training for a health-related career are invited to attend the St. Louis Community College Allied Health Care Career Fair scheduled 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the college's Forest Park campus, 5600 Oakland Ave.
In addition to learning about the more than 18 health care career training and college transfer programs offered by STLCC, recruiters from local area hospitals will be on hand to answer questions about potential job opportunities in the health care field.
The free event will feature individual sessions that provide detailed information about STLCC's health career training programs that include Dental Assisting, Emergency Medical Technology, Respiratory Therapy and Radiology Technology. Each 15-minute session will cover admission criteria and program prerequisites, description of the training and the work environment, expected length of study, course fees and anticipated job opportunities upon graduation.
Each year, STLCC prepares hundreds of students for successful careers in health care and provides others with a high-quality, affordable option for completing the first two years of a four-year college degree in a health care-related field.
Michael Bender, an STLCC alumnus who earned his master's degree in occupational therapy and is currently president of Therapeutic Specialties, Inc., credits his success in the health care field to St. Louis Community College. After attending STLCC and eventually obtaining his MBA, Bender opted to change careers and returned to STLCC to earn the prerequisites he needed to pursue a degree in occupational therapy.
"These courses that were fully recognized by Washington University allowed me to get accepted to their Occupational Therapy program," he said. "Had I not had the support of the faculty at Forest Park while taking those prerequisites, I would not be an OT today."
